Has anyone tried any supplements to decrease gas in dogs? My dog has the worst gas! I've tried him on every food, do not give him any treats or scraps, but it's still almost unbearable. I've researched some supplements, but the only one I found good info on was in a scientific study and included yucca, zinc and charcoal. Any suggestions? Thanks. I've tried Iams, Science Diet, Natural something or another, some stuff from my vet....some did say they contained yucca.

CF_ replied: "good foods contain Yucca... and many treats contail Yucca or Charcoal.. the foods you have tried - are they grocery store/wal mart foods or are they Premium level foods??? you wont find good foods/treats in grocery stores or wal marts.. you will pay more for the better foods but you will feed less.. its the filler (corn, wheat, by-products) in the cheap foods that cuase the problems"

orchidee400 replied: "Dogs fart, that's what they do. it doesn't matter if they are big or if if they are small. They stink up your house, it's part of their charm. If he's not crapping or pissing around the house, i'd say you'd have nothing to worry about."

NYstrele replied: "hahahaha... um, sorry... canned dog foods tend to have the most gas-inducing agents. try dry food. are you SURE it's not someone in your house trying to blame the dog? ; )"

How do you get rid of gas in dogs??? We can't take it anymore!!? He is a boxer and we do feed him premium food.

Amanda K replied: "They have some pills for that - ask your vet."

Jen replied: "Do you have a boxer? I'm just curious. Mine has quite a bit of gas - I think it does depend on the breed on how much gas the dog has, but the best thing to do is consult your vet and see if you can alter your dog's diet to eliminate his problem."

Jess replied: "Gas is most often caused by poor quality food. Try changing your dog to a high quality diet, Innova, Canidae, Wellnes, or Solid Gold to name a few."

raticals.com replied: "Check your dog's diet. If your dog has perpetual flatulence, it is more than likely, diet-related."

one fine nerd replied: "My dog (rat terrier) does suffer with gas from certain dog foods, especially those with any kind of milk flavor. It seems to bother her as much as it bothers us. When you find a brand of dog food that sets well with your dog's digestive system, stick with it. It will make your dog feel a whole lot better. By the way, I know it's tempting to give in to a dog's begging for your food and sometimes she does get to share our snacks with us. Never any sweets though."

kimsva replied: "Try using an elevated feeder. This will help the dog take in less air when eating. Also may want to switch to a premium food. Science Diet, Nutro, Blue Diamond are all good choices, easier for the dog to digest."

Bonzie12 replied: "My pup had gas also and I know what you are going through. Here's what I did and it worked wonders. After you give them their meal, give one teaspoon of unflavored low fat yogert. Something in the yogert counteracts the bacteria in the intestional track which causes the gas. I buy the little individual containers and then I eat the rest. Good for you good for your dog. Good luck. I also read somewhere that charco-caps do the same thing, but the yogert is less expensive and I get the healthy benefits of it too. I read in the other commets where it says about the quality of your dogs food, but my dog is on a vet recommended dog food and he still gets the gas. I really don't think that has much to do with it."

Linda D replied: "Make sure you're feeding high quality food with no corn and human grade ingredients (Canidae, Innova EVO, Timberwolf, Wellness...). You can give your dog spoonful of plain organic yogurt about 15 minutes before each meal. You want that bacteria in there before the food gets there. If that doesn't work go probiotic! These products help populate your dog's digestive system with all the good bacteria that's needed for good digestion. I give my Boston the Fastrack CMS. It seems expensive but it's cheaper than buying yogurt for her every week. One small container lasts me about or 9 months. It really works for us!"

Dreamweaver replied: "Try charcoal biscuits"
